Ever wonder why most people see their doctor? The answers may surprise you.
More people age 20 – 64 see their doctor for high blood pressure, diabetes, joint and abdominal pain then all
other reasons combined. One thing these conditions have in common is that they are greatly affected by our
lifestyle. A combination of poor diet and high stress levels are the prime factors in these conditions. The
irony is that most doctors, although great at medical interventions, do not focus on nutrition and lifestyle
issues. It seems we are on our own to figure it out.
Although healthy food is available to most of us, it seems that eating healthy has never been more difficult. The
temptations of high fat, low nutrition foods beckon us all. Many of us don’t feel we have the time to prepare
nutritious foods, so we opt for ready made, processed foods. Over time, these processed – high calorie foods
contribute to diabetes, indigestion and numerous other ailments. The old saying “you are what you eat” is proving
to be true.
Today, many people around the world are suffering from vitamin and mineral deficiencies, which are directly
related to our food choices but also our depleted soil. The soil we grow our food in simply does not have the
same level of essential minerals as it did just 100 years ago. If these vital nutrients are not in our soil, they
will not be in the foods we eat.
A recent survey shows that 95% of the North American population suffers from at least one mineral deficiency. Vitamin
and mineral deficiencies are common the world over.
Some of the most common mineral deficiencies include Calcium and Magnesium, which an inadequate intake of both
may lead to weakened bones and joints. Other common deficiencies include copper, iron and zinc.
Daily use of a balanced multi vitamin and mineral supplements can prevent nutritional deficiencies and bridge the
gap between what our diet provides us and what our bodies really need. It is no longer a question if we need a
vitamin and mineral supplement, it is which one.
