What is nutria ®?
go to top
nutria
® is a highly concentrated phytonutrient supplement with
added antioxidant vitamin and minerals. Each serving of nutria
® provides the equivalent lycopene value of 2.5 servings
of fresh tomatoes, the equivalent sulforaphane value of one complete
serving of broccoli and the selenium value of 1.5 pounds of beef
or seafood. In addition, each serving of nutria
® provides the antioxidants and phytonutrients from 20
sources of fresh fruits and vegetables.
2.
What are "phytonutrients"? go
to top
Phytonutrients
are a newly discovered class of nutrients found in plants. ( Phyto
is derived from the Greek word for plant.) These nutrients protect
the plant from damage due to sunlight and other environmental
stresses. Recent research suggests that phytonutrients found in
fruits and vegetables may play an important role in protecting
the cells of the human body as well. Certain phytonutrients may
also have strong antioxidant properties which can help the body
fight the harmful effects of free-radical cell damage. Free radicals
are molecules with an extra electrical charge that seek out and
damage healthy cells in the body. Free radicals are found in food
additives, air pollution, cigarette smoke, chlorinated drinking
water and are also part of normal metabolism. It is clear that
every one of us is exposed to free radicals every day and that
we should do all we can to minimise their potential damaging effects.
3.
Why are lycopene and sulphoraphane important phytonutrients?
go to top
These
two phytonutrients are being carefully studied for their apparent
ability to protect the body from major disease. Lycopene and sulphoraphane
seem to have extra disease fighting and health prevention abilities.
4.
Can you get too many phytonutrients? go
to top
No. In fact, the more phytonutrients your diet contains, the healthier
your diet is. Many studies have confirmed that people with diets
high in plant nutrients tend to have fewer incidences of major
illness and disease.
5.
What is the best time to take nutria
®? go to top
nutria
® capsules should always be taken with a meal as lycopene
and sulphoraphane are better absorbed by the body when a small
amount of fat is present.
6.
Is there any sugar in nutria
®? go to top
No. nutria ® capsules do not
contain sugar.
7.
What role does the additional vitamins and minerals
in nutria ® play? go
to top
The additional vitamins and minerals found in nutria
® are added for their powerful antioxidant capacities.
nutria ® has been formulated
to be one of the most powerful antioxidant and cell protecting
formulas available anywhere in the world.
8.
Do I still need to eat fresh fruits and vegetables?
go to top
Absolutely! nutria ® is not
intended to replace fresh fruits and vegetables but to help supplement
the important nutrients provided in them. It is well recognised
that the majority of people do not consume the suggested servings
of these foods on a daily basis. Fresh fruits and vegetables also
provide dietary fibre and water, two important elements to good
health.
9.
Will the nutria ®
work together with intra ® and
Lifecycles® Vitamins and Minerals?
go to top
The human body is a very complex machine that requires many nutrients
in order to perform at its best. The nutrients contained in intra
®, nutria ® and the
different Lifecycles® nutritional
supplements have different roles in the body but work in harmony
with one another to help provide better health.
10.
Can I still take nutria
® if I don't like taking capsules? go
to top
Yes. nutria ® capsules can
be pulled apart and the contents can be sprinkled over your meal
or into a beverage, such as a Lifestyles Dream Shake or fruit
juice.
11.
Can you tell me more about SelenoExcell? go
to top
SelenoExcell is a certified 100% organically bound selenium that
has the highest level of bioavailability of any selenium available.
Bioavailability is a measure of the amount of a food or supplement
the body actually absorbs. This is a key element in any supplement
as the body only benefits from nutrients it can absorb and utilise.
When speaking of a mineral like selenium, organic forms of selenium
are used by the body better than inorganic salt forms, thus making
them more bioavailable.
12.
How much selenium is safe to take daily? go
to top
The upper safe limit of selenium intake has been estimated at
800mcg per day. It would be impossible to get anywhere near this
level from food alone. The suggested daily intake for selenium
is 200mcg to 400mcg per day. The trials currently underway use
SelenoExcell at a minimum level of 200mcg per day.
13.
Are there different forms of selenium? go
to top
In the nutraceutical market, selenium can be purchased either as a
salt form or in an organically bound form. The salts are sodium
selenite and sodium selenate, and both have been shown to be less
bioavailable than organically bound forms of selenium. The organically
forms of selenium are high selenium yeast or selenomethionine. High
selenium yeast contains multiple organic selenium compounds whereas
selenomethionine is a single amino acid (methionine) with a selenium
molecule attached to it. There are several qualities of high selenium
yeast products with the best one to use being a product that certifies
that it contains 100% organically bound selenium; as many high selenium
yeast products can not certify this claim.
nutria ® capsules contain SelenoExcell, a certified 100% organically
bound selenium.
14.
Are there any current studies using High Selenium Yeast?
go to top
Yes, following the success of the 1996 Nutrition Against Cancer Trial
and other clinical observations, there are a series of cancer and health
related trials currently underway using High Selenium Yeast as the
intervention agent. Some of these studies are being funded by the following
organisations: National Cancer Institute (NCI)[United States & Canada],
National Institute of Health (NIH), United States Department of Agriculture
(USDA), Department of Defence (DOD), International Cancer Alliances.
15.
What is an antioxidant? go to top
Antioxidants are minerals and vitamins that can inhibit the formation of
free radicals before they are able to cause damage by breaking down the
molecules of the cell..
16.
Should I supplement with other antioxidants in addition to the selenium?
go to top
Certainly, selenium and vitamin E each have specific functions in fighting
free radicals, but they also have common functions to protect the body against
free radicals. When taken together the body gets the benefit of each of their
specific functions, plus their common functions complement each other to perform
better as one than as two separate entities. It is believed that these two
antioxidants can work together "synergistically" to prevent free radicals from
damaging healthy cells and therefore reduce the risk of cancer. Each
nutria ® capsule offers a measured balance
of organically bound selenium, antioxidants and phytonutrients to supplement
any diet.
17.
What is the purpose of Green Tea Extract in the nutria
® formula? go to top
Green Tea contains a potent family of antioxidants called polyphenols.
Research indicates that polyphenols may have an ability to protect
the cells of the body from harmful substances such as free radicals.
Because of this potential protective factor, Green Tea Extract
was included in the formula. nutria
® formula.
18.
Why did you put both fruit and vegetable extracts in the
nutria ® capsules? I heard that
you should not eat fruits and vegetables at the same time? go
to top
Fruit and vegetable extracts were blended together in one capsule
to provide the goodness from a wide variety of different fruit
and vegetable sources. Each fruit and vegetable provides our bodies
with specific nutrients. Other reasons include convenience (you
only need to take two nutria ®
capsules per day, not four) and a more economical retail cost
for the product.
There
is no valid biochemical reason why you cannot consume fruits and
vegetables together. The body has the enzymes that are fully capable
of breaking these foods down to their basic end products which
is basically sugar, fibre, water, and vitamins and minerals.
19.
What are the capsules themselves made from? go
to top
The capsules used for nutria ®
and intra ® Capsules are made
from gelatin (a type of protein) and water. They may be separated to
sprinkle over food.
